[Letter] Feb.21,1887,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]

Feb. 21, 1887, Smith College

Dear Mr. Giddings,
           The best way to
meet Mr. Cable is to catch
him at teatime and evening.
To that end please come,
bringing Mrs. Giddings on
Thursday afternoon, prepared
to spend the night here, and
we will try to secure the Cables
for the same evening. We have
been intending to have them
here for tea, and shall greatly
like to have them meet you
in that way. Unless he happens
to have some engagement we
shall have him.
 Your letter makes it
clear that the sentence "All labor
creates wealth" is liable to
convey a wrong idea. It meant
simply all kinds of labor are,
in their nature, productive.
Prof. Hadley makes it the basis
of his very queer interpretation
of my theory of business ethics,
as you doubtless saw. I shall
insert a note at end of Chap II
covering the point.

         Yours Very Truly,
                J. B. Clark
