[Letter] April 5,1887,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]

April 5, 1887, Smith College.

Dear Mr. Giddings,
            I am called to
Minnesota by business, and
have notified Dr. Seligman
that his answer may be
sent to you. I wrote a
second time to him immediately
after our meeting. Prof.
Stoddard is a chemist, and
would give us something
excellent in itself, but not
likely to draw out any
discussion. Mr. Tuttle will,
I think, want all the time we
can well have for preparation.
Concerning dictionary how
would this plan do? Let
Bemis do all the searching
for references, quotations etc.
You make most of the
definitions finally suggested
as desirable for adoption, and
allow me to talk them
over with you more or less
in the process. Let the
book be mainly yours, but
let Bemis for his grubbing
get 4/10 of profits, you
4/10 and me 2/10?
All this is mere suggestion.
I will talk it all over at meeting.

     Yours Very Truly,
                 J. B. Clark

P.S. You see the plan
as outlined would leave you
free to demand a great deal
of work from Bemis, and
so save yourself for the best
things.
