[Letter] May 28,1887,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]
May 28, 1887, Smith College.
Dear Mr. Giddings,
I am glad the
project pleases you. Let
us put it through. We
may have to confer in
order to bring the second
joint article into harmony
and into due sequence
with the former one.
I had thought of the
Ginn's as publishers, because
they issue the quarterly
and because I know
them; but I have
nothing to urge in this
direction, and should be
glad to follow your
suggestions. As the plan
I had thought of extending
the 'Profits' article in
Work and Wages to include
a discussion of the way
in which they are
determined, in which I
would venture to criticise
Walker's theory in a
mild way and to suggest
a parallel formula that
meets my views a little
better. This is delicate
ground in view of all
relations involved. What
would you discuss as
Part II? The theory of
profit sharing affords
material that would follow
in this line pretty well,
does it not? I should
like to have the second
pair of articles fit as
well as the first.
Speaking of your paper
at Boston, I had
noticed the form which
the value discussion took,
and liked it exceedingly.
I think it accurately hit the
point you had in mind
and that its analysis is
thoroughly sound. I greatly
liked the new introduction.
Yours Very Truly,
J. B. Clark
