[Letter] June 3,1887,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]
June 3, 1887, Smith College.
Dear Mr. Giddings,
Did you know
that the firm of G. C. & Co.
had attained a European
reputation? See London
Spectator for May 14.
Prof. Munroe Smith
called my attention to this
in his letter, in which
he cordially consents to
the book making plan.
I have taken a
contract to "beard the lion
in his den, the manufacturer
in his (hired) hall." I have
agreed to talk to the
Congregational Club at
Worcester on the Relation
of Modem Economics to
Christian Ethics. I want
to get such a hold of the
beard as not merely to
irritate the animal, but to
bring him to terms. If I
could I would read this
paper to you before
delivering it, and at the
same time arrange the
plan of work for the book.
I may not get either the
paper or the outline nearly
enough completed in time to
do it. Address comes on 13th.
Yours Very Truly,
J. B. Clark
