Feb. 11, 1888, Smith College. [Enclosed a letter from Ginn &
Co. "on the backward status of the expected book."]

Dear Mr. Giddings,
           Rah for charcoal!
'Capital in Modern Industry'
is drawn out rudely to the
end. I may not feel
like "making a joyful
noise" when I read it over.
What I want is that you
write out the 'Ethics of
Interest' and publish it
at the same time that
my essay appears, if so be,
that it appears according
to contract, in May.
I enclose letter
indicating the rather
backward status of the
expected book. They will
lose the market if they
let too many weeks
slip by. I hope not
many more will do so.

     Yours Very Truly,
          J. B. Clark
