[Letter] July 2,1888,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]
July 2, 1888, Smith College.
Dear Giddings.
A change of plan
compels us to start for
the Mts. early on Thursday
AM.; and there are
so many things to be
done about the house
that I fear my wife can
hardly spare me for a
trip to Springfield before
going. I expect to return
by about Sept. 10th, early
enough to consult about
details of Sept. meeting.
I suppose we should invite
our speakers at once. I
suggest that we ask Mr.
Giddings to read the essay
on Marx; also that we
ask Prof. Ely to speak; also
that we have one or more
other 'foreign' speakers
(James, Adams, Hadley, Farnham [sic], Taussig, Walker,
etc, etc.)
How would it do to have
a forenoon meeting, an
afternoon drive and an
evening meeting? Could we
collect an audience?
Yours Very Truly,
J. B. Clark
Address after Thurs.
Ludlow VT.
till Aug. 1,
then Littleton, N.H.
till Sept.
