[Letter] Nov.2,1888,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]

Nov. 2, 1888, Smith College.

Dear Mr. Giddings.
     Thanks for kind
expressions relative to
the presidency of club. I
did resign with due
impressiveness, appoint
a committee of nomination
and then saw myself
and others renominated
as if I hadn't said a
word.
 You inquire whether
Prof. Bastable has seen the
'Philosophy of Wealth'; I
doubt whether he has; but
his appreciative words on
your analysis would be
due all the same if he
had seen my volume,
both inside and outside.
It is possible he may
have confined himself to
the 'outside view'as
many of us do in similar
circumstances. He is a
pleasant gentleman and
a fine scholar in any
case.

      Yours Very Truly,
            J. B. Clark

P.S. Prof. Patten suggests for
our Com. on Econ.Theory a work
in econ. definition. Our old
scheme has come to light you sec.
Would you be in favor of undertaking
as a committee an extensive work
in that line - or are not so
extensive? Please give me your
views early that I may have something
to say to the other members.

           Yours Very Truly,
                    J. B. C.
