[Letter] March 14,1890,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]

March 14, 1890, Smith College.

Dear Friend,
      Miss Lord's list
rec'd. Ali's well.
Speaking of Welles -
what a queer jumble
friend Patten's attack
on him is. Patten will
catch it. The protectionism
will bear the brunt of the
public criticism; but
how naively he refers
wages and interest to the
'Margin of cultivation'.
What an ample list of
meanings he attaches to
the phrase "point of
view." One ought not to
criticise him severely for
such points as this last.
The article is not
without the characteristic
Patten strength.

Yours Very Truly,
J. B. Clark
