[Letter] Jan.8,1891,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]
Jan. 8, 1891, Smith College.
Dear Friend,
By all means,
I should say, let the
report be dated after
what it chronicles.
It may appear wherever
needed.
I am now at
lunch and "looking backward"
on my very pleasant
visit at your house.
Yours Very Truly,
J. B. Clark
P.S. I have inserted
in my Marshall notice
a study of Subjective
Rent, suggested by his
Consumer's Rent,
by your analysis of
increasing burdensomeness
of overtime work. Producer's
Rent = saving of sacrifice
by working in early and
non-onerous hours. Consumer's
Rent as for Marshall. The
two are complementary parts
of one whole = Subjective Rent.
I refer to your studies as leading
naturally to this. To me this
study is new. Is it so to you?
