     July 26, 1891, Arlington, Vermont.[on Smith College
     letterhead]

Dear Friend,
       Excuse pencil.
I am here on route for
Dorset, Vt., my home for
two or three weeks.
Fred and I wheeled
here on bicycles, and have
been here a week. I
am sorry enough that
you are so preempting
unhoused. Could you
not board at Bryn Mawr
for a year, and move
to the vicinity of
Columbia College, if all
goes well, at the end of
it? It looks as if this
withdrawal from New
England rather seriously
endangered the visit I
hoped for from you in
Sept. About the
monograph I would
say, as Taussig thinks
it not a negative
value for our purpose,
and two others think it
is of positive value,
it would be well to
issue it in Sept. about
the Definition
monograph promised by
our committee. The trouble
is as it always has been,
other work on hand and
in sight far into the
future. Still I can, as
I hope, redeem every part
of the promise in the
course of a few weeks.
I have to say something
in reply to Walker, and to
write two articles on
Distribution for the
new English Encyclopedia
of Political Economy.
Then the decks will be
clear of small things. A
large thing will remain for
at least one year. Would it
be best for me to write to the
Secretary of the British Econ.
Association about cooperating? Have
you in mind a date for the
appearance of our monograph on Capital-Value?

           Yours Very Truly,
                J. B. Clark
