[Letter] February 16,1892,Smith College [to F.H. Giddings]
February 16, 1892, Smith College.
Dear Friend,
It now looks
as if we should not
be able to make the
best arrangements for
the children if we go
to Europe this year.
Our parents and
relatives have illness
that prevents their
caring for them. This
being the case let us
go next year if we can.
We can make a little
party that will be very
congenial, and will save
expense. When you
come to New England
of course I want to
see you. About that we
will have further
correspondence. I had
not heard of Dr. Ely's
resignation, and it
astonishes me. I saw
that Prof. Laughlin was to
go to Chicago. I am at a
loss to interpret Dr. Ely's
course. Is he ill?
You were very good, as
you always are, to express what
you did about the vacated place.
Yours Very Truly,
J. B. Clark
