[Letter] December 29,1894,Amherst [to F.H. Giddings]
December 29, 1894, Amherst.
Dear Professor Giddings:
I expect to be
at the Sociology Conference
on the 28th.
Mrs. Clark is
now with me. Some
weeks ago she was
called to Minnesota
by the death of her
father. He was very
old, and for some
years had been a
great sufferer. Her
mother returned with
her to Amherst and
is now with us.
My wife and I are
to be at Professor
Mayo-Smith's during
the days of the session
as doubtless you
have from the first
known; doubtless
Professor Mayo-Smith
told you at the time
of sending the invitation.
Not one word
has come to me
from the Johns Hopkins
since I left Baltimore.
President Gilman
told me he would send
an official letter of some kind
"in a few days." In my own
feeling I am becoming quite
indifferent to the actual prospect
of going there; but I could decidedly
prefer that the university should
not at this point draw back unless
the reason is financial. A financial
halt, and a year of delay would suit
me best of all. They may wait to sell Clifton.
Yours Very Truly,
John B. Clark
