[Letter] January 20,1920,New York [to F.H. Giddings]

January 20, 1920, New York.

Dear Colleague:
       I want to thank
you again for the little
book on The Responsible
State [1918], which I have today
read with great pleasure
and profit. You fortify
positions that need
defense in these days.
I am on a parallel
line of effort though only
for an economic purpose
not involving much
analysis of political
entities. I am under
contract to look and
talk as wisely as I can
on 'Economic Principles
and Post Bellum Problems'
as I think the announcement
reads, and one of the
major problems is the
extinction of profiteering
that is contrary to the
law, as the courts have
declared it to be, and makes
food cost at least twenty
five per cent more than it
should in the absence of
sundry monopolistic combinations.
 With congratulations on the
book I am

     Very cordially yours,
            John B. Clark
