Sept. 24, 1930, 321 W. 92nd St., New York City.

Dear Friend and Colleague,
       Almost the only
serious book that I have read
in about a year and a half
I have read more than half
through this evening with
profound interest. May I say
that twenty five words written
on the fly leaf by the author's
own hand I profoundly
appreciate. 'Mighty Medicine' it
all is, and the inscription
makes it as agreeable as it is
valuable.
It recalls the
delightful hours we often
spent together in the
Springfield-Northampton
days. I hope such times
are not over, though the
years do pass fleetly. Many
thanks for the very able
and interesting volume.
With best wishes for
the health and happiness of
yourself and your family,
I am.

     Very truly yours,
      John Bates Clark
