[S.N. Patten's letter] April 7,1891,Philadelphia [to F.H. Giddings]

April 7, 1891, Philadelphia.
Dear Giddings,
 I am very sorry
to hear that your health is
has broken down. I have how-
ever seen that the crisis was
near for some time. We must
all learn to measure our
strength and economize it.
Perhaps it will be poor
consolation but I have never
been forced to delay the
expression of my ideas
but that I afterwards
rejoiced because of it.
I have sometime lost
a few ounces of results
but have gained many pounds
by the clearing up of my ideas.
You know what a trial it
has been for me that I
could not print my
Austrian article long
ago but the clearing
up of my ideas has more
than paid for the delay.
The big prizes in Economics
are yet to be won. He who
talks last talks best. He has
all the little driblets of ideas
to unite in a harmonious
whole. James and I go to
Boston tomorrow.
                                                 S. N. Patten
