[S.N. Patten's letter] Jan.24,1894,Phialdelphia [to F.H. Giddings]
Jan. 24, 1894, Philadelphia.
Dear Giddings,
I am sorry to have
to write a testimonial which
will take you away from
me but as it is to take you nearer
to what you want I submit
and shall bear my loss with
fortitude. Success to you.
You do not know what
an addition to my scanty stock
of pleasures my trips to Bryn
Mawr make. I shall miss
you more keenly than you
think. And Mrs. Giddings. Her hos-
pitable welcome, her smile, and her tea-
they are simply not replaceable.
The only consolation that I
can get will be to go to
Bryn Mawr occasionally and
stand at the foot of the hill
looking at the cottage at its
top and think of what was
but is not.
Sincerely yours,
Simon N.Patten
