[S.N. Patten's letter] Oct.11,1895,Philadelphia [to F.H. Giddings]
Oct. 11, 1895, Philadelphia.
Dear Giddings,
I have been hoping
for some time that you would
report progress so that I could
know how the book was getting
on. Is it yet in the hands of the
printer? I find that there
are lots of teachers waiting
for its appearance and thus
its success is assured.
My essay is now getting in its
final form. It will make a
monograph about the size
of the Dynamic Economics.
I have made it larger
than I intended at first
and more topics are discussed.
I have cut down the dis-
cussion of race psychology
somewhat so as not to let
the psychological part run
away with the rest of the essay.
The best of it will however be
the psychological part as at
least the references from this
part in regard to knowledge and
belief.
The essay will have four parts.
I. The influence of the environment.
II. Race Psychology.
III. Knowledge and Belief.
IV. A social commonwealth.
The last is a discussion of
how the social forces would
act in ideal conditions.
I have now worked so long on the essay
that I am getting tired of continuous
application. I must get it out soon
in some shape and take a mental
rest.
Best wishes to Mrs. Giddings, the
Robinsons and other friends.
Sincerely Yours,
Simon N. Patten
