[Letter] 1868 May 14, Parsonage Road, Withington, [Manchester to ] Hendricks
Parsonage Road
Wittington
14 May 68.
Dear Hendricks
I return you
enclosed the specimen
sovereign which was
examined with inter
est by the members
of our Society last night.
We had not however
very many present
possibly because it is
rather late to get meetings
together here.
I also send back the
papers. The MS one
strikes me as particularly
clear & convincing & it is
to be hoped you will
have it printed in
some way or other.
It seems that a 1 per cent
change would keep the
value of the sover. almost
precisely where it is now
for the Bank Commission
is at present. 166 p. c.
and if .834 per cent be
added to this it almost
exactly balances the .825
subtracted in the form
of gold.
I send you by post
also three copies of
the Manchester
Guardian which contains
the best report of
my paper.
I shall look with
great interest for the
report of the Commission.
Yours faithfully
W. S. Jevons
