[Letter] 1837 April 28, I[ndia] H[ouse] [to Mrs. Sarah Austin]

                                         I. H.
                                        28th April
                                         1837
 My dear Mütterlein―I have
written to you by Henry Reeve’s
parcel, but I have something to say
which induces me to write again.
Would Mr Austin like to be the
Professor of Moral Philosophy at Glasgow?
The chair is vacant, & it is worth
£700 a year, but so long as old Mylne
lives (he is 83 years of age) it will only
be worth £300. It is in the gift of the
Professors, & one of them, my friend
Nichol, who is an admirer of Mr Austin
has written to me to ask if he would
like it & to say that he could perhaps
carry Mr Austin’s election to the chair
with such testimonials as it would be easy
to get. If Mr Austin declines, he has
nobody better than Bailey of Sheffield,
& means to try for him.
Pray answer this as soon as you
are able
            Your Söhnchen
