Our philosophy and mission, Library History

The Kwansei Gakuin University Library, as the fundamental institution for supporting the educational and research philosophy and aims of the University, has a philosophy and mission to promptly provide the faculty, students, and other library patrons with the appropriate academic information through collecting, organizing, and maintaining books, periodicals, and other materials, as well as disseminating knowledge produced in our library inside and outside the University in an effective way, via the library bulletin and Website. We aim to contribute to the progress of education and research at the University through the outcomes of the philosophy and mission, and also to the development of society as a whole through the University's educational and research achievements. To this end, we strive to fulfill the following specific aims.

Our philosophy and mission

Strengthen the ability to collect academic information
Meet the educational and research needs of the University in prompt and effective ways by increasing the amount of electronic media materials such as electronic journals and online databases, which have become increasingly common in recent years, as well as traditional paper materials.
Develop as an electronic library
Reinforce educational and research support by strengthening electronic operations, including the creation of an academic portal site, since the role played by a university library as the base for sending/receiving academic information will become more significant with the development of a networked society as a backdrop.
Be a user-friendly, functional library
Continue to improve facilities and administrative operations, aiming to create a user-friendly, functional university library. For students, we create a comfortable space for their studies and research and provide better instructions for use of our library. For academics, we reinforce collaboration with other universities and institutions so that we can strengthen our role in promptly providing appropriate domestic and international academic information. Further, we create an environment where the faculty and students of Kwansei Gakuin University can take a proactive approach to using the library's academic resources such as books and materials, and facilities as a place for their intelligence exchanges and creation.
Promote the importance of contributing to society
Kwansei Gakuin University advocates social contribution programs in its policy as a university open to its community. In line with this policy, the Kwansei Gakuin University Library promotes social contribution programs by opening the library to students of Kwansei Gakuin High School, alumni of the university, and residents of neighboring areas, as well as by strengthening cooperation with nearby public libraries.
